The exhibition celebrates the centenary of one of the best-known London shops, charting its development from a small concern specializing in goods imported from the East to the large department store of today. Arthur Lasenby Liberty, the founder of the firm, was a shrewd business man with a rare knack of exploiting artistic trends. Possessing a genuine feeling for art, he rapidly acquired a clientele who added to his knowledge. Rossetti, Whistler and the artists who patronised his shop in Regent Street became his personal friends.
