| Notes | With 19 (of 20) tipped-in photographs, including two montages of multiple nude figures. Silver prints, each approximately 13 ¼ x 10 inches, tipped to the original mounts, with Mortensens's red monogram hand stamp on mount recto; each separated by spider-web pattern glassine guards. Folio, 21 ½ x 17 inces, original cloth-backed blue boards with paper title label, dampstained, backstrip worn; contents very good. First Edition, signed by Mortensen. Hollywood California: Westcosco Studios, (1925). Originally from the Collection of Courtney Crawford, Mortensen's first wife, with her bookplate and a snapshot of her laid in. A search on the World Book Catalogue indicates only one other copy, at the University of Arizona, with 14 photographs. A rare copy of the photographer's first book. This hand-bound title was produced by Mortensen while he was designing sets for a mid-1920's production of the Rubaiyat entitled A Lovers Oath. Included are two unusual photomontages in which multiple cut-outs of female nudes are artfully arranged on the page, Drtikol-style. |
