| Notes | Every year the Saint Mary's College Museum of Art presents its annual summer landscape. The 2012 exhibition, The Nature of Collection: The Early 20th Century Fine Art Collection of Roger Epperson, marked the 22nd summer the tradition continues. The works on veiw were amassed by the late collector Roger Epperson (d. 2008). Epperson was an East Bay Regional Park ranger for over thirty years who had a passions for California's environment and a deep love of art. Epperson was a self taught collector of early landscape paintings, etchings and woodblock prints. He collected with a discerning eye, a curious mind and a keen sense of what he liked. While on view were more than 90 works of art, Epperson's collection consisted of well over 300 pieces. Epperson shared the same view, awe and respect of nature as the artists who depicted it in his collection. The collection is an important body of work as it includes pieces by some of the most notable early 20th landscape artists. |
